Have fun with this set of the Rune "alphabet". The set comes with approximately twenty-four 8mm Runes and three 12mm Stones plus extra of the Isaz letter (be careful with that one, it is delicate).
You will love the way this cutter set lets you cut stone shapes and emboss the letter in the stone you chose! See the picture to see the cutter and what it would look like pressed into clay.
The first systems of writing developed and used by the Norse and other Germanic peoples were runic alphabets. The runes functioned as letters, but they were much more than just letters in the sense in which we today understand the term. Each rune was an ideographic or pictographic symbol of some cosmological principle or power, and to write a rune was to invoke and direct the force for which it stood. These work great for cutting out your favorite kind of clay! Click and read this great article by Ginger at The Blue Bottle Tree to learn about release agents. Wash with soapy water after use and they will last indefinitely!
